Financial statements are the bottom of the funnel.
Everything above them — the business decisions, the culture, the macro environment — is what actually moved the number. Most analyst jobs stop at reporting the number. We’re hiring someone who wants to explain it.
Level10 CFO® is a fractional CFO advisory and accounting firm, and a deliberately different one. We partner with CEOs and leadership teams through every stage of the life cycle: formation, setup, capital raising, launch, growth, M&A, and exit. We ask the tough questions, we challenge the status quo, and we default to “yes and” rather than the “but no” our clients are used to hearing from finance people.
We’re also, per our website and we stand by it, not boring.
The Role
You’ll be the analytical engine behind our CFO Advisors. Monthly reporting packages, variance analysis, budgets, forecasts, KPI dashboards, and the financial models that leadership teams and boards make decisions from — across a portfolio of clients in different industries and different stages of growth.
Two things make this different from a typical finance job.
Everything we do is advisory-led. All of our service tiers come with a forward-looking CFO perspective, which means analysis here doesn’t end at “revenue was down 6%.” It ends at a recommendation someone can act on. You’ll be expected to form a point of view and defend it.
You’ll see the whole life cycle in a year. A portfolio model means exposure that would take five years to accumulate at a single company: a client raising a round, a client cleaning up a chart of accounts, a client modeling an exit, a client trying to figure out why cash and net income keep telling different stories.
What You’ll Do
- Build, maintain, and improve financial models for budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning
- Prepare complete and accurate monthly reporting packages with variance analysis and KPI dashboards across multiple due dates – high quality for our clients is a MUST!
- Use AI to work smarter — stress-testing model logic, interrogating large datasets, surfacing anomalies, drafting variance narratives, and moving manual Excel steps into AI-assisted workflows
- Translate executive direction and business assumptions into structured financial inputs
- Assist the new-client onboarding team in gathering information and setting up the initial FP&A processes for success
- Identify and eliminate manual processes and formulate into standardized processes
How You’ll Know You’re Winning
We run on EOS — the Entrepreneurial Operating System — and it’s foundational to how we work, not a poster in a conference room. Practically, that means you’ll have a scorecard with defined measurables, quarterly rocks you help set, and a weekly rhythm where problems get raised and solved instead of aging quietly. You will always know what’s expected of you and how you’re tracking against it.
Three months in:
- You independently own the monthly reporting cycle for your clients, and your CFO Advisors trust your numbers without re-performing your work.
- You’ve built models other people rely on, are clearly presented, that tell a story and become someone a CFO leans upon for hard client conversations.
What We’re Looking For
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
- 1–3 years in FP&A, accounting, audit, investment banking, or a comparable analytical role — strong new graduates with relevant internships will be considered
- AI fluency. Hands-on use of Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar as part of how you work — writing effective queries, running analysis on large datasets, assisted AI coding to automate repetitive work, and drafting documentation. Plus, the judgment to verify output before it reaches a client.
- Advanced Excel and Google Sheets
- Solid grasp of the three financial statements and how they connect
- Clear written and verbal communication; you can explain a variance to someone who doesn’t work in finance
- Experience juggling multiple clients or projects with competing deadlines
- Ability to support CFO Advisors across all US time zones
- Bonus: exposure to FP&A or accounting platforms: Jirav, Syft, QBO, Cash Flow Frog, or ClickUp
How you work
- Detail-obsessed. You catch the error before it reaches the client.
- Professionally skeptical. You question assumptions, validate sources, and won’t present a number you can’t defend.
- Risk-conscious, not risk-averse. You’ll tell us which risks are worth taking, not just which ones exist.
- Self-directed. You’d rather figure it out and check your thinking than wait to be told.
- Genuinely curious. You want to know why the number moved.
Our Core Values
These are ours, word for word, and we hire against them:
- Our clients’ interests always come first.
- We brave the crucial conversations. Honest and direct, including when the news is bad or the feedback is uncomfortable.
- We embrace technology. If a process is painful, we go find a better tool.
- We actively challenge the status quo. Thoughtfully, with the risks considered.
- We like to laugh. (Even at ourselves.) The work is demanding. The environment shouldn’t be.
Maybe you picture accounting types as humorless, semi-fossilized bean counters. We have clearly detectable personalities and we can tell a decent joke. Work isn’t always fun, but we do our part to make it as painless as possible.
Compensation & Benefits
$55,000 – $85,000 annually, based on experience. Eligible for health benefits, retirement benefits and PTO.
